Suryavamshi Solar Projects LLP

PM Surya Ghar subsidy in Kerala.

A plain guide to the central rooftop solar subsidy for Kerala homes: how much you get, who qualifies, and each step from application to the money arriving in your bank.

The short answer

Up to ₹78,000 back.

PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana is the central government scheme that pays part of the cost of rooftop solar for homes. In Kerala you apply through the national portal, and KSEB handles the connection side.

The subsidy is ₹30,000 per kW for the first 2 kW and ₹18,000 for the third kW. A 1 kW system gets ₹30,000, 2 kW gets ₹60,000, and 3 kW or more gets the maximum of ₹78,000.

The money is paid straight into your bank account after the system is installed and KSEB fits the net meter. You pay the installer the full price first, then receive the subsidy.

Who qualifies

Check you are eligible.

Your own house

You own the house and its roof has space for panels.

A KSEB connection

You have a domestic electricity connection in your name, with the consumer number from your bill.

No earlier subsidy

You have not already received a central subsidy for rooftop solar on this connection.

How to apply

From registration to money in the bank.

As your installer we do these steps with you, so you only need to share your KSEB bill, Aadhaar and bank details.

  1. Register on the national portal with your state (Kerala), KSEB as the electricity company, your consumer number and mobile number.
  2. Apply for rooftop solar and choose a registered vendor. KSEB then checks technical feasibility for your connection.
  3. Install the system through the registered vendor once feasibility is approved.
  4. Apply for the net meter. The vendor submits the installation details, and KSEB inspects the system and fits the net meter.
  5. Submit bank details. After the commissioning certificate is issued, add your bank account and a cancelled cheque on the portal.
  6. Receive the subsidy directly in your bank account. It usually arrives about 30 days after the bank details are accepted.

How much is the PM Surya Ghar subsidy for a 3 kW system?
A 3 kW system gets the maximum subsidy of ₹78,000: ₹30,000 per kW for the first 2 kW and ₹18,000 for the third kW.
Is there extra subsidy for systems above 3 kW?
No. The central subsidy for a home stops at ₹78,000, so a 5 kW system gets the same ₹78,000 as a 3 kW system. A bigger system still makes sense if your bill is high.
How long does it take to receive the subsidy?
The money usually arrives about 30 days after KSEB issues the commissioning certificate and your bank details are accepted on the portal. Mistakes in bank details are the most common cause of delay.
Can I get a loan for rooftop solar under the scheme?
Banks offer collateral-free solar loans for homes under the scheme. Rates and limits change, so check the current terms with your bank or ask us when you get your quote.
Do I need to deal with KSEB myself?
No. As your installer we file the feasibility and net-metering applications and coordinate the inspection. You only need to be home on the inspection day.
